Introduction to Magnets

The composition of magnets is iron, cobalt, nickel and other atoms, the internal structure of its atoms is relatively special, and it has a magnetic moment itself. Magnets can generate magnetic fields and have the property of attracting ferromagnetic substances such as iron, nickel, cobalt and other metals.

Types of magnets: Shape magnets: square magnets, tile magnets, special-shaped magnets, cylindrical magnets, ring magnets, disc magnets, bar magnets, magnetic frame magnets, attribute magnets: samarium cobalt magnets, neodymium iron boron magnets ( Strong magnets), ferrite magnets, AlNiCo magnets, FeCrCo magnets, industry magnets: magnetic components, motor magnets, rubber magnets, etc.

Magnet Manufacturers Around the World

Nowadays, local Chinese enterprises lead the competition, such as Beijing Zhong Ke San Huan Hi-Tech, Tianhe Magnets, Ningbo Zhaobao, JL MAG Rare-Earth, Yantai Shougang Magnetic Material Inc., Zhejiang Innuovo Magnetics, and Yantai Zhenghai Magnetic Materials, and they provide products of medium and high quality. Additionally, foreign giants like TDK, Hitachi Metals, VAC, and Shin-Etsu Chemical have forayed into China and have been striving for a larger market share there.

The global market is fragmented and is characterized by regional concentration. On account of the presence of large-scale rare earth metal deposits in China, numerous small, medium, and large-scale manufacturers are located in close vicinity.

The manufacturers are mostly focusing on developing or innovating new products with higher efficiency to cater to high-end performance industries, such as defense, aerospace, and automation. Some of the prominent vendors in the global permanent magnets market include

Types of Magnets That Can Be Customized from the Manufacturer

Below are the types of magnets that can be found at the manufacturer

1. Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB)

This type of magnet is composed of rare earth magnetic material, and has a high coercive force. They have an extremely high energy product range, up to 50 MGOe. Because of this high product energy level, they can usually be manufactured to be small and compact in size. However, NdFeB magnets have low mechanical strength, tend to be brittle, and low corrosion-resistance if left uncoated. If treated with gold, iron, or nickel plating, they can be used in many applications. They are very strong magnets and are difficult to demagnetize.

2. Samarium Cobalt (SmCo)

Like NdFeB magnets, SmCo magnets are also very strong and difficult to demagnetize. They are also highly oxidation-resistant and temperature resistant, withstanding temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius. Two different groups of SmCo magnets exist, divided based on their product energy range. The first series (Sm1Co5) has an energy product range of 15-22 MGOe. The second series (Sm2Co17) has a range that falls between 22 and 30 MGOe. However, they can be expensive and have low-mechanical strength.

3. Alnico

Alnico magnets get their name from the first two letters of each of three main ingredients: aluminum, nickel, and cobalt. Although they feature good temperature resistance, they can easily be demagnetized and are sometimes replaced by ceramic and rare earth magnets in certain applications. They can be produced by either sintering or casting, with each process yielding different magnet characteristics. Sintering produces enhanced mechanical traits. Casting results in higher energy products and enables the magnets to achieve more complicated design features.

4. Ceramic or Ferrite

Comprised of sintered iron oxide and barium or strontium carbonate, ceramic or ferrite permanent magnets are typically inexpensive and easily produced, either through sintering or pressing. However, because these magnets tend to be brittle, they require grinding using a diamond wheel. They are one of the most commonly used types of magnet, and are strong and is not easy to demagnetize.

5. Temporary Magnets

Temporary magnets can vary in composition, as they are essentially any material that behaves like a permanent magnet when in the presence of a magnetic field. Soft iron devices, such as paper clips, are often temporary magnets.

6. Electromagnets

Electromagnets are made by winding a wire into multiple loops around a core material this formation is known as a solenoid. To magnetize electromagnets, an electrical current is passed through the solenoid to create a magnetic field. The field is strongest on the inside of the coil, and the strength of the field is proportionate to the number of loops and the strength of the current.

The electromagnet core material at the center of the coil (the core of the solenoid) can also affect the strength of an electromagnet. If a wire is wrapped around a nonmagnetic material, such as a piece of wood, the overall magnetic field will not be very strong. However, if the core is composed of ferromagnetic material, such as iron, the strength of the magnet will dramatically increase. So why is an electromagnet classified as a temporary magnet? Because when the power from the battery ceases, so does the current, and the magnetic field disappears.

Genuine Magnet Manufacturer

There can be confusion when talking about magnet manufacturing, so it's important to talk about who the real magnet maker is. There is a difference between magnet companies, magnet manufacturers, and magnet brands. Magnet brands refer to companies that manufacture and commercialize magnets, and these companies can be subsidiaries.

A company may operate one or more magnet brands, but if the company only focuses on magnets, then we have a magnet company. In turn, magnet companies can make their own magnets, or they can seek out magnet manufacturers.

A lot of magnet manufacturing around the world takes place in China and the United States. Still, many companies in the U.S., their huge market, have opted to move production overseas.

Things to Consider When Dealing with Magnet Manufacturers

Finding the right manufacturer can be a bit of a challenge. Here are some common things to consider when dealing with magnet manufacturers.

1. Safety regulations, quality inspections, and quality standards

It is critical to ensure that the manufacturer you choose adheres to all safety regulations and quality standards.

You can also ask them about their quality checks to ensure their products meet safety and quality regulations.

Additionally, you can research your country's magnet quality standards to confirm that your manufacturer meets all of them.

2. Keep your business capacity in consideration while finding the manufacturer

If you are a small or medium-sized business then it may be better to find a manufacturer that is small or medium size magnet manufacturer.

Big manufacturers usually have bugger MOQ (minimum order quantity) for the order which might not be feasible for you in the start if you are a small or medium-sized business.

Small vendors can offer you a small MOQ and they usually have time for you as compared to the big magnet manufacturers and they can provide better support as well.

3. Ask your manufacturer to provide test reports

There is some test certificates requirement for magnet importing to other countries like Australia and USA etc.

It is always better to ask your manufacturer regarding test reports in advance. These test reports can be helpful in the smooth import process.

4. Ask for a product sample

Some product manufacturers offer product samples. You can ask your manufacturer to provide a product sample before placing the order.

This will give you an idea regarding the quality of the final product.

This can also ensure that all your requirement is met and the end products are according to your requirement. It is also easier to make a change request at this point.

5. Make sure that your manufacturer has a formal manufacturing system

Make sure that your manufacturer is using a standardized process and has international certificates.

You can also ask them if they meet international quality standards there as quality is very important.

This will also help in shortlisting and finalizing the manufacturer as you have a parameter to choose the manufacturer that has certificated for quality standards.
